The Trump administration is preparing to deport dozens of Iranians back to their home country, CNN reported. Sources told the news agency that these deportations could begin as soon as Sunday.
This would mark the first known deportation flight from the United States to Iran since recent large-scale anti-government protests erupted in the country.
News of the potential deportations arrives as Iran faces nationwide protests and violent pushback. Iran’s government said 3,117 people have been killed in the protests, while U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency said the death toll was as high as 4,902.
President Donald Trump has not taken the prospect of military action against Iran off the table.
