KENNEWICK, Wash.- Therapeutic Riding of Tri-Cities (TROT) provides equine-assisted services for children and adults with physical, cognitive and emotional challenges. Founder of TROT, Cynthia Macfarlan said they see people make incredible transformations through their different programs.
“Our Horses Helping Heroes program provides services for veterans and first responders,” said Macfarlan. “We’re able to do that with the help of Gesa’s Local Heroes Grant.”
Another program seeing 43 riders a week is TROT’s Adaptive Riding Program. Hippotherapy is a physical or speech therapy using the movement of a horse as treatment tool. Through these treatments TROT helps to improve riders balance, strength and coordination.
“Sometimes we actually hear a child’s first words on horseback,” said Macfarlan.
All of these services wouldn’t be possible without the donations and sponsors in the community, which is why TROT is hosting its annual Mane Event June 28.
The 11th Annual Benefit Event will be at the Benton County Fairgrounds 5:00p.m.-10:30p.m. with a silent and live auction, barbecue, music, dancing and games.
“It’s just a chance really for the community to come together to support the incredible connection between people and horses,” said Macfarlan.
As a nonprofit, TROT relies heavily on community support to keep their programs accessible and the horses healthy. Funds from the event will go directly to changing lives both equine and human.
“We use the funds to help support the very expensive care of our horses for feed and for veterinary care as well as to make it accessible to everybody so that we can provide some scholarships so finances is not a burden to their healing,” said Macfarlan
