KENNEWICK, Wash. – Trios Health has joined the Washington State Blue Band Initiative to help reduce the risk of preeclampsia in pregnant patients.
Preeclampsia, a serious condition characterized by high blood pressure during pregnancy, affects about one in 12 pregnancies. To address this, the Washington State Department of Health launched the Blue Band Initiative.
Dr. Lori Katterhagen, Chief Nursing Officer, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The implementation of the Washington Blue Band Initiative represents a vital step in enhancing patient safety through a standardized approach to identifying and preventing potential risks.”
Trios Health is issuing blue wristbands to patients at higher risk, encouraging them to wear the band during and after pregnancy. This helps alert healthcare providers to their condition, especially during unplanned visits to urgent care or emergency rooms.
“Symptoms of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy can mimic other conditions, making it challenging for healthcare providers to recognize and respond to in a timely manner,” said Trios Birth Center Director Melissa Wilson. “While Trios staff are well versed and are always on the lookout for symptoms of preeclampsia, being a part of the Blue Band Initiative will make sure our patients are well taken care of wherever they receive treatment.”
Early detection and treatment of preeclampsia are crucial in preventing severe complications.
