RICHLAND, Wash. – The TRIFI International Film Festival is set to kick off this Friday at the Richland Players Theater and the Richland Community Center, running from November 7 to November 9. The festival offers a unique opportunity to explore international films in the Tri-Cities area.
The festival began in 2008, combining the efforts of local events like RADCON and the Columbia Basin Video Festival. It has since evolved into a beloved event for film enthusiasts in the region.
NonStop Local spoke with organizers about the festival’s success in a rural area like the Tri-Cities. They highlighted the significance of film as a connector of cultures and artistic communities.
A standout feature of TRIFI is the 72-Hour Film Challenge. Filmmakers create and submit a short movie in under 72 hours. Selected works from this challenge, along with films from 16 different countries, will be showcased during the festival.
Lauren Cowles and Adele Finch, president and vice president of the film festival respectively, said that the pure joy of filmmaking is what keeps the festival going. That, and a willingness of audience members to learn about viewpoints and cultures outside of their own.
Attendees can purchase a one-day pass for $15 or a three-day pass for $35.
