Tri-City Democrats protest in Richland over Trump and his policies

RICHLAND, Wash. – Demonstrators alongside the Tri-City Democrats gathered Monday afternoon in Richland to protest against President Donald Trump, his policies, and his advisors.

Carl Baker, President of the Tri-City Democrats, says they were out to protest more than just President Trump.

“We’re concerned about the loss of government jobs that’s happening here,” said Baker. You know, the loss of protection for LGBTQ rights (too).”

Baker continued to include issues such as immigration enforcement and access to government buildings, such as the US Treasury, without vetting or any other type of restrictions.

The nearly 100 protesters lined both sides of George Washington Way near John Dam Plaza, clapping and cheering as some cars honked in support. However, the protest also faced opposition, with some people driving by and shouting at the group.

One protester, who wished not to provide their name, says change begins with protests like these.

“The change starts with us. It starts with the regular people, the people who are going to be impacted by this,” said the protester. “The change starts with one person at a time, one step at a time.”

NonStop Local has also reached out to Republican leaders for comment, but have not heard back yet.

According to the Associated Press, today’s protest in Richland was just one of multiple that occurred on Feb. 17 across the nation.
