TRI-CITIES, Wash. – New research from Tourism Economics highlighted the strength of the Tri-Cities’ visitor economy in 2024, with tourists spending $643.4 million in Benton and Franklin Counties, according to a release by Visit Tri-Cities.
3.94 million visitors, including those from Spokane, Seattle-Tacoma, and Portland, experienced the offerings of the Tri-Cities. $79.9 million in state and local taxes were generated, the report said.
Kevin Lewis, President & CEO of Visit Tri-Cities, emphasized the positive impact.
“Visitor spending has a direct positive impact on our community,” said Lewis. “When someone chooses the Tri-Cities for a weekend getaway, a sports tournament, or a family vacation, they’re supporting local businesses and creating new opportunities for the people who live and work here.”
Overall, tourism generated $1.1 billion in total business spending.
Key sectors benefited from this influx, with $146.5 million spent on food and beverage, $144.3 million on retail, and $133.7 million on lodging. Local transportation and recreation also saw significant spending.
“Tourism fuels small business growth, keeps our communities vibrant, and supports services that benefit everyone,” Lewis said. “As we look ahead, we’re not just focused on growing numbers—we’re focused on growing impact. Tourism is a catalyst for transformation. It drives economic growth, creates connections, and brings optimism to our communities.”
