PASCO, Wash. – The city of Pasco held its annual Cinco de Mayo parade, where local businesses and community members gathered to celebrate together.
The Tri Cities’ Indivisible chapter participated in the parade, urging the community to speak out about Sergio Gomez. According to Gabby Gomez, Sergio’s wife, he was detained by ICE officers during what they believed to be a citizenship interview.
“We are here for you. We will fight for you. We’re going to keep being vocal and standing up,” said Loren Malone, founder of Indivisible Tri-Cities.
More than 20 people joined the Tri Cities’ Indivisible chapter at the Cinco de Mayo parade held at Volunteer Park. Rachel Fulton, one of the TikTok managers for Indivisible, aimed to draw attention to issues affecting communities.
“I was trying to spread awareness about the harmful actions that this administration is taking against our marginalized communities. It’s really important that I got out here today to offer support to our local man who was taken by ICE, Sergio Gomez,” Fulton stated.
Although Indivisible is a relatively new organization, founder Loren Malone expressed satisfaction with its growth in recent months.
“I always love seeing people come out and be together and have a say, a similar message. And, you know, to have a group of people that are willing to step out because right now it can be challenging to do that,” Malone said.
Community outreach organizer Anne Giampietro also joined the march, emphasizing her support for Sergio.
“We just really want to support him and his family. And we feel that he should be released and allowed to continue to pursue citizenship. It was just so amazing to be a part of a movement that is trying to bring people together, and again, in this time of division. I think it’s just so important for us as human beings to connect,” Giampietro added.
Malone stressed the importance of raising voices in the community.
“Some of these things feel very, you know, distant and. Oh, that’s happening in other places, but this is right here in our backyard. This community is hurting, from a local person being taken. And, we, you know, it’s up to us to get out there and say, this is not okay, and we have to stand together,” Malone emphasized.
NonStop Local has reached out to ICE officials multiple times to confirm Sergio’s detainment but has not yet received a response.
