RICHLAND, Wash. – The Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation has upgraded equipment for breast cancer screening, thanks to generous donors.
Kadlec announced the Brevera breast biopsy system, which allows for real-time imaging during biopsies, was provided to them.
The advancement means physicians can quickly and accurately verify they have the right tissue sample, reducing the need for multiple attempts, the foundation said.
Previously, doctors had no way to confirm they had the correct sample in real time.
“Donor support of the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation secured this equipment for our mammography patients, keeping world-class care close to home,” the foundation stated.
The Brevera system is used when a patient is referred for a biopsy due to potential masses or calcium deposits. With suction assistance, it retrieves tissue samples and verifies them immediately.
This upgrade not only enhances accuracy but also speeds up the process, benefiting patients whose breasts are compressed during the procedure, the foundation added.
