KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Tri-Cities Food Bank has been feeling the pressure as the deadline to continue SNAP benefits is rapidly approaching.
With those food stamps funds set to dry up this week, the food bank has reported an increase in demand since the shutdown began.
The Tri-Cities Food Bank, which serves Kennewick and has branches in Richland and Benton City, has reserves and is prepared to continue providing food to those in need.
However, they emphasize the importance of community support during this time of increased demand.
“We’re also reminding everybody in the community that we need their support more than ever right now because of the demand,” said executive director VJ Meadows.
The food bank has received calls from individuals wanting to help, highlighting the community’s willingness to come together during challenging times.
“I’ve had people calling this morning saying I heard the news and I want to help. So that’s what it’s going to take everybody on board while we try to figure out how the shutdown and how snap all these losses will affect our people,” said Meadows.
With the SNAP benefits deadline just four days away, the food bank is urging those who want to help or need food assistance to reach out to their branches.
