PASCO, Wash. – John and Kathy Franklin, natives of the Tri-Cities area, have turned their modest patch of land into a flourishing homegrown produce business.

Their venture, Local Pumpkin, offers a unique service—delivering fresh produce directly to customers’ doors; fresh produce that you can see for yourself, since Local Pumpkin also holds farm visits every Friday in the summer from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cathy Franklin emphasized the growing interest in understanding food sources, saying, “I think that it matters to people more and more where their food is coming from and how it’s grown.”

John Franklin shared insights for those interested in starting their own farms. He advised prospective farmers to use resources like YouTube and focus on maintaining healthy soil and managing weeds.

“That’s a healthy soil is you’re going to be able to grow healthy vegetables,” he said. He also recommended starting small and managing growth effectively.

The Franklins’ commitment to transparency and quality is evident in their approach to farming.

They believe that by speaking directly with customers, they can provide valuable information about their farming practices, including what is and isn’t used on their crops.

Local Pumpkin is hosting their Market on the Farm event, where the community can engage with the Franklins and learn more about their offerings.

This event provides an opportunity for locals to connect with the farmers and explore the fresh produce available.
