KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation has received a $10,000 Local Heroes Grant Award from the Gesa Community Foundation to support 25 nurses through a 12-week oncology training program, Kadlec announced in a release.
The program combines hands-on orientation with skilled oncology preceptors and weekly in-class learning, following nationally recognized standards from the Oncology Nursing Society and other accrediting bodies.
“This residency allows our facility to set the high standards of care provided by each of our new oncology nurses utilizing proven evidence-based knowledge and skills,” said Lisa Lakey, RN, clinical educator for Kadlec Tri-Cities Cancer Center. “Our residency program allows us to support community needs by offering the ability to train new nurses safely and effectively to support patients receiving treatment for cancer.”
Gesa’s Local Heroes Grant Program funds organizations aiding local heroes, including healthcare workers and educators.
This year, 52 organizations received more than half-a-million dollars in funding. Since 2021, the program has distributed over $2 million to more than 200 organizations.
