YAKIMA, Wash. – Local food banks in the Tri-Cities and Yakima have received substantial donations as the McCurley Hometown Food Drive concluded for the year.
Physical food donations and checks, each valued at more than $60,000, were presented in both locations. This is the outcome of the McCurley Dealership’s annual Hometown Food Drive, which took place during October.
The drive supports food banks in Southeast and Central Washington as well as the Salvation Army of Yakima.
McCurley emphasized that the drive has become a yearly tradition aimed at bringing people together and helping community members provide for their families.
Lindy Styer, president of St. Vincent de Paul, expressed her thoughts on receiving some of the money and food.
“I haven’t been a president as long as these folks have been giving to food banks in Saint Vincent de Paul. And so for me, it’s an introduction to a tradition of the community supporting us. That is fabulous. It’s such a good feeling,” Styer said.
Over its 23-year history, the food drive has donated more than 1.7 million pounds of food, not including this year’s addition.
