The cohosts of The View continued to talk about Donald Trump‘s pivot on the matter of the House of Representatives’ upcoming vote on the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files on Tuesday’s (November 18) new episode. In the discussion, Sunny Hostin shared a new theory about what his change of attitude on the matter of the documents’ release signifies — and what Trump might do next.
The panelists began by reviewing footage of Trump in the Oval Office discussing the matter of the Epstein files and saying, “We have nothing to do with Epstein. The Democrats do. All of his friends were Democrats. Some of the people that we mentioned are being looked at very seriously for their relationship to Jeffrey Epstein. But they were with him all the time. I wasn’t. They could do whatever they want, give them everything. Sure, I would let the Senate look at it, let anybody look at it, but don’t talk about it too much, because, honestly, I don’t want to take it away from us. It’s really a Democrat problem.”
The cohosts also watched footage of a press conference held by Epstein’s victims in which they bashed Trump for “making this political.”
“So it seems like the house will have enough votes to OK the release, but I’m suspicious about what Trump’s up to here,” Joy Behar, serving as moderator in Whoopi Goldberg‘s absence, said to start. “He doesn’t want his taxes released or his college records, so suddenly he wants to release the Epstein files. Has he changed his mind about everything?”

“I have a theory,” Hostin shared with her cohosts. “He’s also calling for certain Democrats to be investigated by the Justice Department, and Pam Bondi has said that she will start the investigation — or has started the investigation — under the Department of Justice guidelines. If there is an open investigation, any documents related to that investigation cannot be released … during the course of the investigation. And so if the House says, ‘Yes, let’s release the Epstein files,’ if the Senate agrees to do it, even if the president signs it, there’s an exception to that act.”
Hostin’s theory differs from what her fellow cohosts had to say on the previous show; previously, Sara Haines suggested he changed his mind because he was on the losing end of the matter, vote-wise, while Alyssa Farah Griffin called Trump’s move a PR stunt.
