RICHLAND, Wash. – The Reach Museum invites the community out for Homeschool Night, where families who educate their children at home and learn and gather community resources.

Beginning at 4:00 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to explore interactive museum exhibits, learn about REACH’s education programs, meet with local organizations and even collect some goodies (while supplies last).

Marketing and Communications Manager for the museum, Patt Mosley, says tonight is an excellent opportunity for parents to learn and take home some resources.

“We just want to give the homeschool community an opportunity to realize we have all these resources available for them to take back to their home,” said Mosley. “A lot of the stuff that we offer is actually science standards national curriculum.”

The Reach Museum is also hosting a few other events for the week of September 15th, including sensory friendly hours and their STEAM workshop.

The sensory friendly hours aim to add inclusionary options for those who might find the hustle and bustle of a museum too much. From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., lights will be dimmed down, overhead sounds will be silenced, and videos will be muted, instead adding closed captioning.

On Saturday, the museum will be hosting its monthly STEAM workshop. This event is centered around everything weather, allowing visitors to create their own weather-measuring tools, play with the wind, make clouds and more.

Mosley also excitedly highlighted their ‘Screech at the REACH‘ event happening later next month. For the entire day, visitors can learn about nocturnal animals that make their home around Hanford Reach, including owls, toads, ravens and wolves. The U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife will also be in attendance to help guide and teach visitors.
