SELAH, Wash. – The Selah Police Department announced the King County Medical Examiner has confirmed remains found on Cowiche Mill Road east of Selah were those of a missing four-year-old.

An autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, with further tests underway to identify the cause of death, police said in a release.

Alaric “AJ” Funderburgh’s father was initially arrested on April 17 for misdemeanor charges related to the investigation.

While those charges were dismissed, Selah Police said he still faces charges in Federal Court for two federal felonies: Theft of Government Money and Wire Fraud.

“We are diligently pursuing every possible lead to develop and present factual information for a successful prosecution.” Chief of Police Dustin Soptich said in the release.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Alaric’s death continues.
