
GEORGE, Washington – The search for a missing light plane near the Gorge Amphitheater along the Columbia River continues today.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), a Cessna Skyhawk, was last reported on Tuesday afternoon, March 4, after departing from Yakima, bound for Chelan.
GCSO and Kittitas County Sheriff were notified around 11:00 p.m. and the search began shortly thereafter.
At 3:11 a.m., marine units and drones were deployed to search the area where the last aircraft data was received. Despite extensive efforts, no signs of the plane have been found so far, said the GCSO.
Deputies said the search was suspended around 3:45 a.m. due to safety concerns and that the search will resume at daylight, with deputies planning to continue their efforts in the area.
Authorities have stated that no public assistance is requested at this time.
The pilot is believed to be the only person aboard the aircraft, said the GCSO.
