YAKIMA, Wash. – Safe Yakima Valley has partnered with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission to launch a new campaign, “Catch a Ride, Not a DUI – Most Drive Sober,” aimed at promoting safe driving among young adults in Yakima County.
The campaign highlights that most young adults in the area already make responsible choices by not driving under the influence. It seeks to correct misconceptions about impaired driving through strategic social norms marketing, encouraging behaviors such as planning ahead, using rideshare services or designating a sober driver.
Findings from the 2025 Yakima County Anonymous Impaired Driving Survey reveal that 94% of young adults do not drive impaired, and 9 out of 10 disapprove of peers driving impaired.
Additionally, 87% plan to catch a ride with a sober friend or rideshare, and 85% feel comfortable intervening to prevent someone from driving impaired.
The campaign is being rolled out across Yakima County in both English and Spanish.
Efforts include culturally relevant billboards, radio public service announcements, social media, print ads and videos.
