RICHLAND, Wash. – The Spudnut Shop, a local favorite in Richland’s Uptown Shopping Center, is urging the city to help pay for a facelift through the city’s Commercial Facade Improvement Program.

According to an agenda item for an upcoming May 5 meeting with the Economic Development Committee, the owner of The Spudnut Shop applied for the grant.

The committee is expected to issue a recommendation to the city council to fund improvements to the building’s exterior, including new windows, doors, and signage to three storefronts.

The total project cost is estimated at $61,500, with $42,750 qualifying for the program. The Commercial Facade Improvement Program will provide up to $20,000 in matching funds for the project, the report said.

The building, one of the oldest in the Uptown Shopping Center, was built in 1951.

The Spudnut Shop has previously benefited from similar grants, receiving $5,000 in 2002 and $30,000 in 2011 under different ownership, the report added.
