RICHLAND, Wash. – This weekend, Richland will be hosting its 2025 Regatta, complete with over sixty boats and onshore activates.
The city estimates nearly sixty boats will participate in the event, racing just off the shores at Howard Amon Park. Festivities such as vendors, a beer garden and family-friendly activities will be held throughout the weekend as well.
Hector Cruz, Vice President of Development and Engagement for Visit Tri-Cities, says the event looks to bring in a large crowd, and with that, some money as well.
“We’re expecting over 2500 people coming in from out of town. And so that translates to over $227,000 in economic impact. These people are coming from all across the region spending their dollars here in the Tri-Cities.”
The revenue generated won’t be confined to Richland alone. Cruz noted that hotels, restaurants, and stores across the Tri-Cities will also benefit from the influx of visitors.
Stan Johnson, Recreation Coordinator for Richland Parks and Recreation, hopes the event will not just bring money into the area but bring people back.
“Maybe it’s their first time to Richland. You know, they come in and experience the area,” said Johnson. “And they come back and visit for other things and come visit for other events as well.”
Among the visitors is Bill Miller, who is in town visiting family. He was unaware of the regatta but is now considering extending his stay.
“This event sounds like it has changed my plans, and I might just have to show up over here on Saturday morning and check it out,” said Miller.
