RICHLAND, WA — The Mid-Columbia Children’s Museum (MCCM) in Richland is set to become a central hub for STEAM learning and cultural connection.

A $1 million allocation from Washington State’s capital budget will aid in the museum’s planning and design, focusing on STEAM education and workforce development, the museum said in a release.

The funding, championed by Senator Perry Dozier and supported by State Representatives April Connors and Stephanie Barnard during the legislative session, allows the museum to offer immersive experiences showcasing the region’s primary industries such as agriculture and scientific innovation.

“As a member of the Senate’s capital-budget team I see a lot of funding requests, and the Mid-Columbia Children’s Museum really stood out – and not just because it’s in our region. The museum will celebrate the many things that make our corner of the state such a special place, in a way that allows children to see and touch. Also, I’m on the K-12 education committee, and have extra appreciation for what a tremendous asset the museum will be for families and schools. It can’t get built soon enough.” said Senator Dozier.

Chelsea Blair, Board President, highlighted MCCM’s mission to empower families and inspire local children to explore future career paths. “Through exhibits and programs designed with intention for young learners from all backgrounds, we aim to strengthen the future workforce in our region,” Blair said.
