
Richland, WA – Manhattan Project National Historical Park will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Japan with two events in Richland.
On Friday, August 8, the REACH Museum will host the Messages of Peace program from 12:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Community members can write messages on luminaria bags and fold origami cranes.
Ranger programs about the Manhattan Project and Hiroshima survivor Sadako Sasaki are scheduled at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
This event is included with museum admission and free for REACH Members.
The following day, Saturday, August 9, a free Lights for Peace event will take place at 8:00 p.m. at the Fingernail Stage in Howard Amon Park.
The program will feature music from the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers, a guest speaker, and a peace bell ringing. Attendees can walk a luminaria-lit path displaying community messages.
