RICHLAND, Wash. – The City of Richland this week plans to address growing concerns over trail safety and etiquette as trail usage increases.
The Parks and Recreation Commission has scheduled a meeting on Thursday, November 13 to discuss issues with e-bikes traveling at prohibited speeds, cyclists not signaling when passing and motorized mini-bikes on non-motorized paths.
With the commission considering park safety as a goal for 2026, city staff is proposing a subcommittee that would work with community stakeholders to create an awareness campaign promoting proper trail etiquette and responsible recreation.
According to the commission’s agenda report, the campaign could feature volunteer “Trail Etiquette Ambassadors” to educate users and encourage positive behaviors.
Additionally, a signage audit along key trail corridors could improve messaging, clarify permitted uses, and reinforce safe trail behavior, according to the commission.
