RICHLAND, Wash. – A situation unfolded at the Franklin apartments on February 19, 2025, when Richland Police responded to a 911 call involving a domestic violence incident.
Investigators said a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had broken into her apartment, threatened to kidnap and stab her, and was experiencing a mental health crisis.
The suspect, who was located nearby, refused to comply with officers from the Richland Police Department, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, and West Richland Police Department, police said.
Throughout the encounter, police said the suspect dropped a knife but ignored commands before reaching for what officers believed might be another weapon.
A less lethal tool to safely take him into custody was used, police added.
The man was arrested and booked into Benton County Jail on charges of residential burglary, felony harassment, and obstructing police officers.
