Richland police investigating weapons disturbance at Claybell Park

RICHLAND, Wash. – Richland police and the Richland Parks Department are working together following a weapons disturbance at Claybell park.

According to the Richland Police Department (RPD), on Thursday, April 10, crews responded to the area of 425 Broadmoor Street for reports of a disturbance involving more than 20 individuals and a weapon fired into the air at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The Kennewick Police Department, West Richland Police Department, and Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist.

Preliminary findings indicate the incident started as a pre-planned fight between two individuals which escalated and resulted in a member from one of the groups firing a weapon, according to RPD.

Park Rangers on scene witnessed several vehicles fleeing the area. Occupants of a vehicle believed to be involved were detained for further investigation.

One juvenile was transported to Kadlec for injuries consistent with a physical fight.

A firearm and multiple shell casings were recovered by officers from the area.

RPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident and reviewing available footage.

Officers will be conducting extra patrols in local parks.
