RICHMOND, Va. – Cmdr. Don Coomes, a Richland, Washington native, has taken command of the USS Alexandria, a Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine.
Cmdr. Coomes, a native of Richland, Washington, expressed his enthusiasm to lead the Alexandria. “I couldn’t be more proud to join the ranks of Alexandria and lead this amazing crew,” Coomes said.
Coomes brings extensive experience to his new role, having served on multiple submarines and completed several deployments. He is a graduate of Oregon State University and has advanced degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School and the University of Strasbourg. Coomes is fluent in Spanish and French and has received numerous military commendations.
