BAKER COUNTY, Ore. – A Richland man was rescued after spending nearly three days in a crashed vehicle near Anthony Lakes Highway in Baker County, Oregon.
The Baker County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) reported that on September 22 at approximately 9:38 a.m., they received a call about a motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies found a 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit down an embankment.
Paul Bartholomew Schwinberg, 75, was discovered in the vehicle. Fire and medical personnel helped Schwinberg up the embankment to an ambulance.
The investigation revealed that Schwinberg was returning home from an appointment in Kennewick, on Friday, September 19.
During his drive, he took a wrong turn, got lost, and failed to negotiate a curve on Anthony Lakes Highway, resulting in his vehicle resting in a creek bed.
Schwinberg managed to exit the vehicle but was unable to climb the steep embankment. He remained there throughout the weekend until a local rancher found him on Monday morning.
Pioneer Ambulance medics evaluated Schwinberg and transported him to St. Alphonsus Hospital.
