RICHLAND, Wash. – A man was arrested this afternoon in Richland on multiple domestic violence charges in connection with an alleged hostage situation.
The arrest involved the Street Crimes Unit detectives, Richland Police Department patrol officers, and Benton County Sheriff’s Office proactive team, Richland Police said in a release.
On July 6, police said they responded to WE Johnson Park after horse riders found a woman who claimed she had been held hostage by a man.
The victim was located on a dirt road in the park’s south side and identified the suspect as her ex-boyfriend. She reported being picked up by him on July 4 and only managed to escape on July 6, RPD said.
Investigators said the suspect managed to avoid capture until now. He has been booked into Benton County Jail on multiple domestic violence charges.
The Richland Police Department emphasized their commitment to assisting domestic violence survivors. “If you need help, call 911 or the non-emergency phone number (509-628-0333) to speak with a police officer about your situation,” the department stated.
They also recommended contacting the Domestic Violence Services of Benton & Franklin Counties at their 24-hour crisis line (509-582-9841) for additional resources and guidance.
Nonstop Local typically does not name suspects until they are formally charged.
