RICHLAND, Wash. – Richland and Kennewick Police have collaborated with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) to combat online crimes against children by adding a new detective to the Southeast Regional Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SER-ICAC TF).
The task force, already comprising members from the Richland and Kennewick Police Departments and a Homeland Security Special Agent, has welcomed a BCSO detective to enhance its capacity to investigate and catch online predators, said Richland Police in a release.
“We are thrilled to welcome a detective from BCSO to our task force,” he said. “The work of SER-ICAC TF is crucial in protecting the most vulnerable members of our community.” Richland Police Chief Martin Pilcher said.
BCSO Sheriff Tom Croskrey echoed this sentiment, stating, “Our office is committed to protecting the children of Benton County, and this partnership with SER-ICAC TF is an essential step in expanding our investigative reach.”
The task force has also gained a new Electronic Search Dog from the BCSO, trained to detect hidden electronic devices. This K9 is expected to be a valuable asset in uncovering digital evidence.
Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, Laurel Holland, emphasized the impact of this collaboration. “The addition of a new Southeast Regional Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force detective from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office will have an immediate impact on the safety of children in Southeast Washington,” she said.
