RICHLAND, Wash. – The Mid Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group (MCF) hosted a community event called “Fish-O-Rama” at Wye Park on Saturday.
Starting at 8 a.m., participants of all ages gathered at the boat ramp below the park, equipped with rods and buckets, to enjoy a free day of fishing and education.
The event aimed to educate the public about the Yakima Delta and the fish species that inhabit its waters.
Merritt Mitchell, the Outreach and Communications Director for the MCF Enhancement Group, emphasized the event’s significance.
“We’re really excited to be able to share the beauty of the Yakima Delta with folks and teaching them how to fish. So we’ve got families out here that are either have been fishing or a first time fish for people and are working alongside our very experienced staff to learn more about the non-native predatory species in the Yakima Delta and how they are impacting salmon populations,” Mitchell said.
Participants had the option to keep the fish they caught or donate them to the staff for data collection purposes.
For those who missed Saturday’s session, there will be another chance to participate in Fish-O-Rama on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event is open to all ages, and attendees need a valid fishing license to participate.
