RICHLAND, Wash. – Kim Ward, an Instructional Specialist at William Wiley Elementary School, has been awarded the 2025 Crystal Apple Award by the Richland School District (RSD) for her exceptional contributions to education and the community.

Ward, who has dedicated 30 years to education, with 17 years at Wiley Elementary, was celebrated for her innovative approach and belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, said Superintendent Dr. Shelley Redinger in a release.

RSD noted one of Ward’s significant achievements, the iReady morning intervention program. This initiative enables students to achieve a full year’s growth in just six weeks, inspiring other schools in the district to adopt similar strategies.

Assistant Principal Hilary Wingert praised Ward’s ability to instill a lifelong love of learning in students, saying, “Kim’s greatest gift is her ability to spark a lifelong love of learning in her students. She inspires them to dream big, to work hard, and to recognize the potential within themselves.”

Beyond academics, Ward is known for her leadership and mentorship, fostering collaboration among colleagues and building strong partnerships with families. Her calm and compassionate demeanor provides strength and reassurance to those around her, the release added.
