WASHINGTON – With President Donald Trump’s return to office, members of Washington State’s congressional delegation have issued statements in response to the transition of power and pardons for more than 1,500 people charged with crimes in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Congressman Dan Newhouse, U.S. representative for Washington’s 4th congressional district, covering Yakima, the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas remarked:
“Today marks a significant day in our country with the inauguration of President Trump, the final piece of our Republican trifecta. After attending the inauguration today, I am looking forward to the opportunities this administration will bring for Central Washington, and our country. We’re ready to get to work and regain sovereignty of our border, get our economy back on track, and affirm our position as a leader on the world stage.”
U.S. Senator Patty Murray of Washington State released the following statement on the pardons for those involved in the U.S Capitol attack including those captured on camera committing violent attacks on law enforcement.
“The individuals who stormed the capitol and staged an insurrection, especially those who committed acts of violence, should be held fully accountable. It’s a sad day for America when a President who refused to relinquish power and incited an insurrection returns to office years later only to grant violent criminals a Presidential pardon or commutation.
“What the President is doing is wrong—I’m going to keep speaking the truth and fighting for our democracy. I will never let President Trump paper over the history and reality of that dark day or the lessons we must learn from it.”
