Fire crews from multiple agencies were able to stop the progress of the fire that ignited on Rattlesnake Ridge, holding it to a footprint of 118 acres.
Officials from Benton County Fire District #2 reported that firefighters were first notified of the incident around 2:27 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Upon dispatching a Duty Chief to the scene, air resources were requested due to the fire’s growth and smoke column, as well as the Rattlesnake area’s history of fires.
With collaborative efforts from Benton County Fire District #2, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, West Benton Fire Rescue and the Hanford Fire Department, a unified attack on the fire was conducted with both aerial and ground resources, preventing it from spreading beyond the district’s boundaries.
Officials stated that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and is still under investigation.
BENTON CITY, Wash. – A fire has ignited at Rattlesnake Ridge in Benton City, covering 100 acres with no containment reported.
Todd Dormaier, Assistant Chief of Benton County Fire District #2, confirmed that four agencies are responding to the blaze.
Currently, there are no evacuations in place, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
