YAKIMA, Wash. – The Central Washington Resistance and Okanogan County’s Methyl Rising gathered Tuesday outside Congressman Dan Newhouse’s office in Yakima.

Around 50 individuals protested his past support for President Trump’s healthcare bill, concerned about its potential effects on rural healthcare.

Maria Converse, a member of Methyl Rising, expressed disappointment in Newhouse’s actions.

“This does not serve his constituency. And I’m not sure that that will be realized for some time to come. But we’re beginning to see that now with these higher costs in health insurance,” she said.

Meanwhile, in Richland, the group Indivisible TriCities held a rally at John Dam Plaza.

The demonstration, called “Save Our Workers Save Our Healthcare,” saw dozens of people with signs lining George Washington Way, expressing concerns about Washington, D.C. and President Trump.

Indivisible TriCities founder Loren Malone explained the gathering’s purpose.

“We’ve seen a lot of furloughs and jobs and being put at risk and of course now being in a smaller place and threats to Medicaid and Medicare and people are seeing the effects of that right now,” she said.
