BURBANK, Wash. – A music documentary exploring the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival will be screened at the Burbank Library, offering a chance to revisit a pivotal moment in history.

“Summer of Soul (…or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)” is directed by Amir K. Thompson, also known as Questlove.

The film showcases unpublished footage of performances by iconic artists such as Nina Simone, B.B. King, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, and Gladys Knight & the Pips at Mount Morris Park, now Marcus Garvey Park.

The documentary’s title draws from Gil Scott-Heron’s 1970 poem and song, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” which critiqued media coverage of civil rights activism and the Black liberation movement.

The screening will take place Thursday, February 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the community room, where popcorn and snacks will be provided.
