UPDATE: June 12, 2025 4:28 p.m.

The quadplex fire in Kennewick is under control but left one injured and the left the building uninhabitable due to the smoke, heat, flames and the water used to extinguish the fire.

According to a media release from the Kennewick Fire Department (KFD), they dispatched crews to a reported quadplex fire at 911 North Cleveland Street at 4:35 a.m. The fire was dispatched as a commercial structure rather than a house fire, which resulted in more fire units being sent.

KFD arrived on scene within four minutes of notification and had the fire under control within 20 minutes of the first engine’s arrival.

Three of the four units were occupied when the fire started. The first floor occupants were able to safely exit the apartment through the front door.

Two occupants from the second-floor used a rope to lower themselves to safety when flames blocked the stairwell.

The two occupants from the second-floor room next door jumped from a second-story window when fire engulfed the entire building. One sustained minor back injuries and was evaluated on-scene by KFD medics before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The other complained of minor back pain but declined treatment and transport.

One second-floor occupant shared that she only became aware of the fire after getting up to use a restroom. She and her roommate both quickly evacuated, but neither recalled hearing their smoke alarms go off, according to the media release.

Fire crews will remain on-scene for several hours to do a post-fire examination, according to the release.

The Kennewick fire department said they are still investigating the cause of the fire, but urged people to make sure the smoke alarms in their homes are installed and functioning properly.
