PASCO, Wash. – Project Goodwill returns for another year, pushing students to make beautiful garments out of thrifted clothes, paper, and more.

High Schoolers around the Tri-Cities compete for cash-prizes for their respective clubs and programs. This year’s theme is Galactic Glam.

Participants from Chiawana, including Julio Valdez and Alexander Barajas, are eager to represent the largest high school in Washington State.

Valdez, who is serving as the MC this year, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I feel really honored to be a part of this.”

Barajas mentioned the challenges involved, noting, “You have to make a lot of stuff out of nothing or out of the paper, and stuff just starts breaking, or it doesn’t fit the model right.”

The event not only offers a creative outlet for students but also brings together the community, local businesses, and Goodwill to support school clubs and the fashion world.

Chelsey Farias, a mentor to the students, shared her thoughts on the progress she’s witnessed over the years.

“It’s been fun just watching them be so creative and always following the theme,” she said. Reflecting on the seniors’ final year, she added, “It’s really sad because this is their senior year. I get to say goodbye to them.”

McKayla Talavera, a student model, spoke about the challenges of working with unconventional materials like paper.

“It’s been pretty crazy because my outfit is made out of paper,” she said. She described the intricate process, explaining, “The outfit had to get fixed because it wasn’t like fitting enough for me on the top.”

This event’s admission is free, and it will be held at the Red Lion Hotel in Pasco, Wednesday, May 14th. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the event starts at 7:00 p.m.
