A company plans to build $5bn resorts around the world shaped like the Moon.
Developers of the out-of-this-world concept revealed on Tuesday, Feb. 17, their Smart City Masterplan and 10 locations for the ambitious project.
Toronto-based Moon World Resorts Inc. says the world’s largest spherical resort developments would welcome 10,000,000 guests annually.
Regional licensee target locations include Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Poland, Spain, Thailand, UAE and the USA.
The company said the 271-meter-diameter structures would be both the world’s largest and tallest true spheres, exceeding Las Vegas’ Sphere’s 157 metres by standing 312 metres above ground level.
Moon World Resorts says the build-out would be expected to take 60 months, with a potential opening date for the first site in 2032.
According to plans, the fully integrated destination resorts will include “a 4000 room all-suite Five-Star hotel”, “authentic lunar surface and lunar base capable of welcoming 2,000,000 guests annually,” and a range of other facilities such as convention centres, wellbeing and longevity centres, restaurants, conference areas and an e-sports hub.
There are also plans for luxury branded residences, with 10,000 units situated within 16 unique sphere buildings and 20 unique tower structures.
UK space fans may have to wait though Moon World Resorts co-founder Sandra G. Matthews says: “Currently, no plans for the UK, however, in the region we have positive interest from Spain.”
