Pellet gun on Kennewick school grounds leads to arrest

KENNEWICK, Wash. – A Kennewick High School student was arrested after police say a pellet gun was discovered in the student’s backpack.

The incident unfolded when staff were alerted to a student possibly having a firearm on school grounds, Kennewick Police said.

The School Resource Officer and patrol units quickly intervened, removing the student from class.

Police identified the firearm as a realistic-looking pellet gun replicating a .357 caliber revolver that was CO2 powered and unloaded.

The 15-year-old did not threaten other students and may have intended to give the pellet gun to another student, police said.

The student was booked at the Benton Franklin Juvenile Justice Center on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds.

Police emphasized the importance of school safety and the zero-tolerance policy for weapons on school grounds.

They urge parents to discuss the consequences of such actions with their children.
