PASCO, Wash. – The City of Pasco is aiming to establish a new benchmark for its parks and is actively seeking community input to guide the process.
The city has teamed up with the urban planning firm MIG to update design guidelines for both new and existing parks. This next phase of planning is focused on creating consistent, high-quality standards across the park system. The upgrades will include improvements to playground equipment, walking trails, public amenities and more.
Jennifer Zell with MIG explained the importance of community feedback in shaping the future of the parks.
“We want variety throughout the park, but we also want some consistency. And we want to make sure the community’s getting really what they want in their parks, and they’re guiding that development,” Zell said.
City officials emphasized that community feedback plays a significant role in developing final designs and making long-term investments. The city hopes this process will lead to parks that better reflect Pasco’s growth, diversity, and evolving needs.
One concerned Pasco resident highlighted the importance of incorporating the Columbia River and natural scenery into the parks.
“I think on these community parks that are on the river need to be focused on the aspects and elements of nature that you have provided here, and don’t try to make them into something they’re not,” the Pasco resident said.
Accessibility was another major concern raised during the meeting. Several residents expressed hope that the city will consider people with disabilities when upgrading or creating new parks.
For those who missed the meeting, feedback can still be provided online here.
