WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Pasco farmer has been elected president of the National Potato Council (NPC).

Ted Tschirky, a third-generation farmer in Washington’s Columbia River basin, has been actively involved in potato associations for over 20 years. He previously served as NPC’s First Vice President and Vice President of Trade Affairs.

He emphasized the importance of building relationships with elected officials to influence agriculture policies.

“As this year’s council president, I want to encourage our executive committee and board members to get involved with their state representatives as much as possible,” Tschirky said.

According to an NPC release, Tschirky’s farming journey began at age 18 with Future Farmers of America, and he has continued his family’s legacy at Washington Tschirky Farms, which specializes in growing potatoes for processing.

The NPC Executive Committee also includes Chris Olsen from Othello, Washington as Vice President of Environmental Affairs, among others.
