Pasco City Council strikes down land purchase for I-182 overpass project

PASCO, Wash. – The Pasco City Council struck down plans to buy land for an overpass project that aims to span I-182, connecting Harris Road to Chapel Hill Boulevard.

The project is designed to improve access between homes north of the freeway and businesses on the south side. The overpass would also help reduce congestion at the I-182 interchange.

Deputy City Manager Richa Sigdel says they were looking for a larger piece of land at first, but now they’ll be working on drafting a concept before trying again.

“What council directed us to do in that meeting is to do a little bit more thoughtful design that cost $2.5 million, but more, a little bit more detailed design and see if there’s an avenue for us to purchase a smaller piece of property that we can keep for the future,” said Sigdel.

Sigdel explained that transportation impact fees, which are imposed on new housing developments, would fund the project.

She also says construction wouldn’t start for an additional 20 to 30 years as another overpass they’re working on takes priority.
