PASCO, Wash. – The Pasco City Council and the Pasco Public Facilities District have agreed on an interlocal agreement, allowing the city to manage and operate the new aquatics facility in the Broadmoor area.
Matt Watkins from the Public Facilities District expressed optimism about the partnership.
“The large part of it’s going to be lifeguards, but there’s also needs to be a pool manager, and we need some assistance with human resources and finance and that sort of stuff to make sure and operate the facility and maintain it as well,” Watkins said. “So City of Pasco is going to be doing that for us and we’re really, really happy they are our partners in this”
Watkins said the project is still on budget and on schedule. The aquatics facility is planned to open at the end of May or early June 2026.
The 40 million dollar facility will feature lazy rivers, water slides, an outdoor activity pool with a climbing wall, hot tubs and more. Watkins highlighted that cost savings during construction have allowed for additional amenities.
“The savings from this progressive design-build process is that we’re adding a ninja course. So imagine retracting from a ceiling, some jungle gym bars so that two people could be able to compete on swinging bars against a clock over the swimming area,” Watkins said. “That’s about a three quarters of $1 million addition, and we’re happy we’re able to add it through the savings.”
The Pasco Public Facilities District plans to hold a meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the Pasco City Hall Chambers to finalize a name for the aquatic center. More information can be found here.
