Pacific Power announced its teams are monitoring the stormy weather across and are ready to respond to any weather-related power outages.
The power company, serving businesses and homes in the Yakima, Walla Walla and Pendleton, Oregon regions, is advising customers to always be prepared for outages and have an emergency plan in place for up to 72 hours without essential services, especially during this active and hazardous weather.
“We have outages for many different reasons. Flooding, as we can see, is one of them. So we ask them to prepare what we call an outage kit, to have, you know, warm clothing, nonperishable food, some necessary items for pets as well,” said Simon Gutierrez, Pacific Power spokesperson. “Medications, flashlights with batteries and a radio just to have that sort of ready to go. If there is a power outage that will, you know, prevent them from scrambling around in the dark.”
It is crucial to never approach downed power lines, especially if they have fallen in water. Always treat them as if they are live. If you encounter this situation, call 911 and stay away from the area.
Additionally, ensure your phones are charged and report any outages to your provider’s website or app.
