The WRPA Conference, a tradeshow and conference for Parks and Recreation professionals, are coming to Kennewick this week.

The conference’s President and Kennewick’s Parks and Recreation Director Nick Farline used Lawrence Scott Park’s new upgrades to frame what all goes into park planning, design, and more.

“The original playground was over 25 years old, so we came together as a Kennewick team and designed the playground. It’s fully fenced in. We have a playground, grass. It has something for everybody.”

Chris Waite, Richland’s Parks and Recreation Director, said “We really see the direct impact of our work every day. We build these public spaces. They’re phenomenal assets for our community. They’re a place that we bring people together, create memories, and strengthen bonds.”

“Parks and Rec has such a great variety amongst all the things that we do,” Jesse Rice, Pasco Parks and Recreation’s Director stated. “It’s a great career to get into because there’s just multiple varieties and you can go any direction.”

For those interested in the field or seeking more information about the conference, additional details can be found on WRPA’s website.
