KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Tri-Cities Autism Coalition is gearing up for their second annual event aimed at raising awareness and fostering community support for individuals on the autism spectrum.
The event will take place tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Benton County Fairgrounds.
The Wake Up crew talked with Donna Tracy from the Arc of Tri Cities about the significance of the event.
“We were surprised on how many people attended, over 2,500 last year. We’re hoping for the same amount or even more,” Tracy said.
The event is organized by the Tri-Cities Autism Coalition, a group of people and professionals committed to showing support for those with autism.
Tracy emphasized that autism can be isolating, and the event aims to bring resources and community support to families.
“We wanted to show that their community cared about them. And we wanted to bring resources to them,” she said.
Various professionals, including doctors, state agencies, and organizations like the Developmental Abilities Administration and Department of Vocational Rehab, will be present to offer their expertise at no cost.
Fun activities are also planned, such as a corn pit, a scavenger hunt, and taco trucks. Over 100 partners are coming together to make this event a success.
The event will also feature a therapy room and a quiet room for individuals on the spectrum. An Autism Awareness Walk is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
