YAKIMA, Wash. — A house fire early Thursday morning in the 500 block of West Eye Street resulted in the death of one person, leading authorities to remind the public about the importance of smoke detectors.
The fire occurred at a single-family home near the Top Form Design Bike Shop. Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews arrived at the scene around 6 a.m. to find the house engulfed in flames.
Inside the residence, one person was found dead. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze and are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
During their investigation, YFD officials discovered that the home lacked working smoke detectors. The department urged residents to ensure their smoke detectors are functional to prevent similar tragedies.
