First Story is a nonprofit providing affordable homeownership opportunities to under-resourced families in the Northwest.

First Story team member, Gina Donangelo Barnecut said, “First Story has supported over 120 families throughout the Pacific Northwest in 75 different communities.”

According to Donangelo Barnecut, they have dedicated homes to 24 families throughout the greater Tri-Cities area. “We dedicated our first home right here in Pasco in 2005 to the Perez family, who are actually still homeowners today,” said Donangelo Barnecut.

First Story is working to tackle the housing crisis. Founded in 1998, Hayden Homes started First Story working solely on private donations. Partners like HAPO, Par Lumber and Costless Carpet also donate in-kind to help the nonprofit meet its mission. “80% of Hayden Homes team members actually donate through their payroll pretty regularly,” said Donangelo Barnecut. “Hayden Homes matches that.”

First Story offers an application process during the Fall. To be eligible, applicants must meet required criteria, one of those being you must earn 80% of the area median income or below.
