YAKIMA, Wash. – A new traffic signal at South 3rd Avenue and Division Street is set to be activated on Tuesday, August 19.
Currently, the intersection has stop signs on Division Street, but none on 3rd Avenue. However, starting on Tuesday morning, the signal will begin flashing red, indicating a four-way stop, until full operation is activated.
“The signal was installed as part of overall improvements for the intersection to improve safety for pedestrians and employees of Yakima Chief Hops that utilize 3rd Avenue regularly,” Chief Engineer Dana Kallevig stated.
The project received partial funding from Yakima County’s Supporting Investment in Economic Development program, with the remaining funds sourced from a loan to be repaid by the city’s Transportation Benefit District.
Officials have cautioned that the signal’s activation may lead to traffic delays in the area.
