KENNEWICK, Wash. – UPDATE 9:45:
According to Deputy Chief Michael Heffner with the Kennewick Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a fire at 8:51 a.m. because a caller reported popping noises, smoke and heat coming from their neighbor’s garage.
When crews arrived on scene, smoke could be seen originating from the garage.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the garage and had the fire under control by 9:14 a.m. No injuries.
Parts of the ceiling in the garage and home were removed to ensure the fire did not spread.
The home resident was not home at the time of the fire.
Although the fire was contained to the garage, some smoke damage was present in the home. It is unknown if the home is habitable at this time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Kennewick Fire Department.
Crews will remain on scene for another hour for mop up. Richland Fire and Emergency Services and KPD assisted.
KFD notes that the neighbor calling in the smoke probably saved a majority of the home. Those who see or smell smoke should check it out and report it to fire services if needed.
