YAKIMA, Wash. — Technical workers at MultiCare Memorial Hospital have voted to authorize a strike as negotiations for a union contract continue.
According to Teamsters Local Union 760, the strike authorization includes employees affiliated with surgery, radiology, MRI, pharmacy and lab work among others.
The union stated that workers have been negotiating for a union contract since February 2025.
Since MultiCare took over Memorial Hospital in 2023, the union claims there have been reductions in medical coverage for workers’ families and cuts to retirement benefits.
A spokesperson for MultiCare explained that the health system has been working with Teamsters since early 2025. They expressed hope to continue bargaining in good faith to reach a sustainable contract.
The spokesperson also assured that the hospital will remain open and fully staffed in the event of a strike. They have comprehensive plans in place to ensure that a work stoppage does not affect healthcare.
MultiCare concluded by stating that with the help of a federal moderator, they look forward to reaching an agreement that will benefit both team members and the hospital for the future.
